Iron Ore
High-Grade Magnetite for Non-Metallurgical Industries
Iron ore has been the foundation of UMI’s operations since inception, establishing us as a high-quality global supplier to the coal washing and non-metallurgical processing industries. Magnetite (Fe₃O₄) is the industry-standard dense medium for heavy-media separation processes worldwide; and our expertise in sourcing and supplying premium natural magnetite ensures our clients consistently receive material that meets the most stringent requirements for purity, particle-size distribution, and magnetic susceptibility.
UMI supplies both 83 Grade and 80 Grade Magnetite optimized for DMS and HMS circuits. Our long-term supply agreements, rigorous quality control, and technical support ensure consistent circuit performance — matched to your equipment and feed characteristics to maximize throughput and reduce operating costs.
Magnetite
Magnetite (Fe₃O₄) is one of the primary iron ore minerals and the most magnetic of all naturally occurring minerals on Earth. Its ferrimagnetic properties — the same that allowed ancient peoples to first discover magnetism through naturally magnetized lodestone — make it uniquely suited for industrial applications, where it is mined and processed as a high-performance iron ore.
83 Grade Magnetite
Our 83 Grade Magnetite is engineered for dense medium separation (DMS) circuits, offering superior suspension stability, low viscosity, and exceptional magnetic recovery. It maintains consistent medium density in cyclones and heavy-media baths, delivering sharp separation efficiency and higher clean-coal yield. This grade also performs reliably in black pigment manufacturing, ferric sulfate production, and specialty fertilizers.
80 Grade Magnetite
Our 80 Grade Magnetite delivers proven performance in DMS and mineral beneficiation applications where broader particle distribution is preferred. It produces stable, low-viscosity slurries for efficient gravity separation with excellent magnetic recoverability, and is widely used in coal preparation, wastewater treatment, and specialty fertilizers.
Supporting Dense Medium Separation (DMS)
Dense Medium Separation (DMS) remains the most efficient gravity-based beneficiation method in coal preparation globally. By suspending finely milled magnetite in water, operators create a stable medium of precise density — allowing clean coal to float while denser impurities such as rock, shale, and pyrite sink — delivering sharp cut points and reduced ash content.
